How Do I Turn a Picture Into a Scroll Saw?

Have you ever tried to turn a picture into a scroll saw pattern? If you have you know that it can be extremely difficult. First of all, it is extremely difficult because in order to successfully change the shape of your wood scroll saw pattern you need to have access to a machine that can handle the transformation. Some machines are so old that are unusable and most people would have to buy a new machine. There are a few ways that you can change your wood scroll saw patterns if you cannot seem to figure them out on your own.

One way that you can make a wood scroll saw pattern is to use stencils to mark your pattern onto your wood scroll saw. This works great if you already have a picture that you want to transform into a scroll saw pattern. All you need to do is take your current picture and use a very fine point pen or marker to draw what is left of it on the wood. Once you have drawn it carefully, you simply need to cut out the areas that you want to reproduce and then use the wood grinder to round out the edges of the original picture. That is all there is to making a new pattern!

Another way that you can make a new scroll pattern from an existing picture is to draw out the design on a sheet of graph paper and use a pencil to make a rough drawing. You can copy this drawing to another sheet of graph paper and once you have both of these plans you simply need to combine the two. This method works best with larger or thicker plans but it is by no means impossible to make a simple plan. Once you have the basic pattern set up you can start adding details in whatever style you wish.

For some reason it is easier to make scroll saw patterns from photograph images. The reason for this is because when you are sawing a solid piece of wood on the edges on the photo become the sides and you can easily trace the lines on the photo. If you have a clear view of the perimeter of the scroll, you can see exactly where you are cutting so it will be much easier to do a nice even cut with your scroll saw.

The simplest type of scroll saw patterns to make are usually those made from a single picture. These are often simple scroll saw puzzles that involve just a straight line or a series of straight lines and circles to connect. When you first start learning how to make a scroll saw patterns the best way to start is to make just one. Once you have made several beautiful pieces you will feel more comfortable and will find that you can produce beautiful works of art without any worries about how to proceed.

A good place to find some inspiration for your scroll saw puzzle pieces is to go online and look at some of the beautiful picture that you can find. Once you have selected a picture that inspires you then just print it out and save it to your computer. Once you have saved it you can open up your favorite photo editing program and turn the picture into a pattern. Then just follow the instructions that are included in your woodworking plan to complete your project. You can use the scroll saw plans that you have printed out as a starting point when you are working through your own woodworking puzzle.
