With the onset of the Industrial Revolution, woodworking became more popular and the need for woodwork and woodworking supplies increased. Because of this, many men left their jobs to pursue woodworking full time. There was a great need for woodworking products and tools. In response to this, manufacturers started creating specialized woodworking benches that were designed to meet the needs of these men while at the same time being extremely functional and convenient.

In 1849, William H. Sears and Ben Bradley, two young men who were in Chicago, decided to create what would become known as the Sears Woodshop. They called their new shop The Chicago Woodwork Company. It was not until the following year that the first of their woodworking bench plans were sold to the general public. These plans were extremely well designed and drew specific attention to the woodworking basics necessary to build woodworking benches.

It is not surprising that woodworking bench plans were extremely popular. These plans helped woodworkers to build or remodel their own woodworking shop. These wood work table plans were simple to follow. They were often illustrated with beautiful wood illustrations to help the woodworkers make their woodworking ideas come to life.
